Barbara Duchnowski comes to Around The Corner Art Center with almost a decade of experience as a professional faux and mural artist.  Her work is seen in homes and commercial establishments throughout the state.  One of her most recent commissioned mural works is prominently displayed on a Red Bank commercial front.  She enjoys building the foundation for young children to confidently learn and explore art while tapping into their own creativity.  She believes that “the secret” to becoming a great artist is in the building of children’s confidence in their own abilities and creative forms of expression.  She teaches the basic skills for painting, drawing and sculpting using a wide array of mediums including, acrylic paints, watercolors, oil/chalk pastels, clay and colored pencils.  Other mediums may be incorporated if they are an integral part of the current lesson.  Each lesson also exposes young artists to different expressions of art as created by artists throughout the world and throughout the ages.  All her lessons incorporate art history and exposure to various world cultures in a fun and positive learning environment.  Barbara’s background also includes the counseling of children through the use of art therapy techniques.
