Our Story

Around the Corner Art Center was born from a simple belief: everyone should have a place to explore their creativity. Founded by Merrill Tilker and Mark Kolessar, ATCAC has been a cornerstone of artistic expression in the community for over 45 years, welcoming generations of artists of all ages and skill levels.

Our welcoming space has hosted thousands of classes, birthday parties, private events, and walk-in sessions. Along the way, we've seen first-time painters discover hidden talents, kids fall in love with art, and adults find a relaxing creative outlet for self expression. Whether you're 4 or 94, a complete beginner or an experienced artist, you'll find your creative home here at Around the Corner Art Center.

In August 2025, the Daily's purchased Around the Corner Art Center from Merill and Mark with a vision to honor its rich legacy while guiding it into the future. Recognizing the vital role the studio plays in fostering imagination and connection, the new ownership is committed to growing the business and expanding its impact- ensuring that this beloved space continues to inspire and serve the arts and the commuity for years to come.
