This month we are celebrating...EVERYONE!
Below are just a few photos from our Annual Art Show!
This month we are celebrating...EVERYONE!We have so many amazing artists that come for classes each an every week. We are so proud of everything they have accomplished this year, and look forward to seeing what amazing work is to come this summer at art camp! We have camp in both FREEHOLD and MORGANVILLE, as well as, TEEN CAMP and HARRY POTTER CAMP!
Below are just a few photos from our Annual Art Show! Life is riding the waves.... take the challenge! This month's artist is Robin Hurewitz. She took inspiration from a photograph of her son taken by a fellow surfer when he was vacationing. From this photo she created her own amazing masterpiece with oil paint on a large canvas.
"This epic wave, Punta Mango, was a challenge my son experienced in El Salvador and a challenge for me to capture the enormity of his ride." From Photograph to Acrylic PaintThis month we are featuring Lynne Fata. Here are a few words she has written about her piece: This redbellied woodpecker (male) was a visitor to my garden last fall. As he took some breaks from drilling for his breakfast, I was able to capture him with my lens. The composition, color and texture of the resulting images compelled me to create this 9x12 inch painting, highlighting the same “narrow depth of field” that is seen in the photo.
For all artists, it is so important to always be searching for inspiration in the world around us. Interpreting photography into paint really does bring the subjects to life. Keep your cameras/phones nearby and start snapping! Finding Inspiration Across the CountryEach month we will feature a different artist/student. This month we are featuring Sue Peckman. On a family trip to the Pacific Northwest, she shot a photo of the Cowlitz River Bridge on I-5 in Washington State. She altered the colors to offer vivid contrast. Susan loves bridges, in both the utilitarian and metaphorical sense. They help us get where we are going and they signify unity.
Seeing the beauty in LifeEach month we will feature a different artist/student. This month we are featuring Terry Gross. Below are a few words she has written about her inspiring piece. It is important as artists for us always to be seeing and appreciating the world around us. We can share our point of view through our paintings.
It’s was a romantic getaway, Crystal Springs, minutes before sunset. My husband took a picture capturing nostalgia and the beauty of nature. Life is a beautiful. What a fun ride it is... Over her many years at our studio, Charlotte has painted some real masterpieces! Below are just a few of her recent works. Best of luck with the move & keep on creating! From Photograph to PaintingEach month we will feature a different artist/student. This month we are featuring Joyce Wasserman's and her original painting titled Portland Head Light (pictured below, left).
While traveling on vacation to Fort Williams Park, Maine, Joyce photographed this lighthouse and translated it into a painting at her art class. Seen below is her photograph and painting. Can you spot the difference?! We can compare this work to Edward Hopper’s The Lighthouse at Two Lights (pictured below, right). He travelled throughout Maine and used his paintings to document the manmade landscape seen along the coast in particular. Both Joyce and Hopper’s works draw attention to the beauty that can be found in architecture built merely as a necessity, to warn boats of the shore. What is modern painting? Each month we will feature a different artist/student. This month we are featuring Esther Scholssberg's Girl with Curls (pictured below, right) inspired by artists Henri Matisse and Avi Ben-Simhon.
What is modern painting? Is it the ability to set a three dimensional scene onto a flattened space? In the purple robe, Matisse explored this question and painted a woman in a room titled Purple Robe (pictured below, left). The scene is projected onto a two dimensional canvas using different colors and designs. Girl with Curls reflects this. The human form becomes a series of stripes, squiggles, grids and flowers - all painted with vibrant colors. In both paintings, the colors do not seem to come from nature. However, if we really notice, this synthetic color palette is seen in our daily lives dotted across our present/modern landscape. (Written by: Miriam Solondz) |
